Barry County Museum

Just opened in October, 2007, and growing rapidly.

We have so many displays I won't be able to name them all but here are a few.  We just (May, 2008) acquired an old Springfield Wagon that we will soon have on display.  There are several displays of

local doctor's equipment

a baby bottle collection

arrowhead collections

complete civil war (re enactment) uniform that is also part of a hallway of military displays

antique fishing lures and equipment

printing press that was actually used to print The Republican (local newspaper)

a display on Olsen's Redheads (local women's basketball team from back in the 40's)

a display on Roaring River that features the "Old Mountain Maid", Jean Wallace

and we get a lot of interest in the antique loom donated to the museum, even though it isn't put back together yet (we're working on finding someone).  The loom can be traced back to a family that came to MO from TN in the 1840's.

The Barry County Genealogical & Historical Society also has display cases that had been in the old courthouse and have now been moved to the museum so they can be enjoyed by more people.

Another very important part of our operation is Fields' Photo Archives. Ma and Pa Fields established a studio here in the 30's and later it was run by their son and his wife, Max and Margie.  They closed the business in the 80's and we now have all of their negatives. People can come in and order prints and we have even been able to recreate a wedding album after one was lost in a fire.  All that money goes to the Barry County Genealogical & Historical Society for restoration of the Bayless House.

Located just south of Cassville on Hwy. 112.  (From the Lazy Eagle, turn right out of the driveway onto MO 86.  If you want to go through Raring River State Park, turn left onto Hwy F which T-intersects MO 112 in the park.  Turn right onto 112 and take that to the museum.  If you want to avoid the park, take MO 86 to where it T-intersects and joins MO 76.  Turn left and take that to where it T-intersects and joins MO 112.  Turn right and continue toward Cassville to the museum (on the right).

Open Mon-Sat 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
        Sunday 1:00-5:00 p.m.
