Over 250,000 10 to 12 inch rainbow trout are stocked in the daily tag area below the hatchery each year. Trout fishing is available on 3 miles of streams inside Roaring River State Park from March 1 through October 31. Winter trout fishing (catch and release only) is available Friday-Sunday from the second Friday in November until the second Sunday in February. (Additional trout fishing is available in Roaring River outside the Park.)
On Kids Fishing Day, held on the Saturday after Mother's Day each year, fishing is free for kids 15 and under.
